Yes, it looks like that someone's hit a kangaroo on the road and a fresh dead body is left behind that sadly often happens in Australia. But in this case it's not a dead body not even a kangaroo. It's Henry the third, our dog. That's what I've been busy doing. You don't know how much I get pleasure out of it!!!!!!! Feel like lost 10kg of my weight (wish I could). I decided I will only buy digital books or hire the ones from library which I cannot buy as a digital book. I take a photo of the things I attach to and CHUCK them with my eyes closed. I upload them to my Evernote account. What I really want right now is the good scanner (Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500) so that I can make most of my books into PDF documents. The Incredible World Of 3D Street Art

3D street art — alternatively known as pavement, chalk or sidewalk art — is a form of anamorphic art pioneered by American Kurt Wenner. Sprawling over sidewalks, walls, and public spaces, artists use chalk or pastels to render pictures that use mathematical continuation of perspective to give the illusion of three-dimensionality. Though the medium is widely regarded as a modern art, street art traces its origins back to the Renaissance.

Renaissance Roots

The penchant for putting chalk to sidewalk was practiced widely by Italian vagabond artists. Known as the Madonnari because of their copious reproductions of Madonna, the artists would travel between festivals, creating religious works from brick, charcoal, colored stones and chalk. Giving credence to the ‘starving artist’ stereotype, the Madonnari lived solely off the coins passers-by tossed at them for their skill. This practice continued for centuries until the hardships of WW2 significantly reduced the numbers of the Madonnari. However, the art form was revitalized thanks to the International Street Painting Festival in Northern Italy, and the tradition has morphed and continued to date.

Founding Father: Kurt Wenner

The pioneer of 3D street art, Kurt Wenner saw the artistic possibilities of combining the traditional street technique of the Madonnari, with his classical training in architecture and perspective. Born in Michigan, Wenner studied at the Art Centre College of Design and Rhode Island School of Design, and had a short stint at NASA before leaving to study art in Italy in 1982. He first introduced the concept of 3D pavement art the Santa Barbara Museum of Art and founded the first street painting festival, The Old Mission Festival, in the US in 1980.

Wenner’s artwork always uses the language of classicism to tell a story. He developed 3D specifically to highlight the relevance of classical art in understanding modern art. All of the current 3D street artists can trace their roots back to Wenner’s vision, though nowadays, most use computer programs or simplified geometry to create the illusions that Wenner was able to do free hand. The staggering work o Wenner is wonderfully documented and collected in the recently released Asphalt Renaissance: The Pavement Art and 3-D Illusions of Kurt Wenner.

Emerging Contemporary Artist: Edgar Müller

Edgar Müller is a 41-year-old German artist best known for his first giant work, turning the 270 square meter River Street in Canada into, naturally, a river ending in a huge waterfall.

Müller is known for creating the first 3D street painting that changed from day to night. Müller is also the Guiness world record holder for largest pavement art and largest anamorphic pavement art.

This dish served in Japan includes an entire squid served raw, where soy sauce applied to the squid creates a reaction in the nervous system due to the sodium content of the soy sauce that makes it appear the squid is ‘dancing’.

in a campaign designed by the seoul branch of advertising agency cheil, tesco homeplus supermarket opened last fall a virtual grocery store in a south korea subway station, permitting users to shop using their smartphones.
a large, wall-length billboard was installed in the station, designed to look like a series of supermarket shelves and displaying images and prices of a range of common products. each sign also includes a QR code. users scan the code of any product they would like to purchase, thereby adding it to their online shopping cart. after the web transaction is completed, the products are delivered to the user’s home within the day.
the strategy makes productive use of commuters’ waiting time, while simultaneously saving shoppers time spent going to the supermarket.
It will most likely be NFC, not QR code as this actually happens.

Perspective Lyrique uses Ableton Live to control the output of QC + MadMapper.

A mapping by 1024 Architecture, projected on the facade of former Lyrical theater the “Celestins”. The building deformations and figures were controlled by the audience, using a microphone and an audio analysis algorithm.

Broomstick Lace Scarf

As I said I'm really into crochet at the moment particularly I love the very challenging skills/patterns, this is one of my favourite one but believe of not, it's not challenging at all soooooooo easy! But looks sofisticated and GREAT! Don't you agree?

I found it from youtube (http://youtu.be/QzzlVMwewnY) then just followed it. I don't have a thick knitting needle so that I used a bunch of straws wrapped with tapes. It works anyway. I am making this for one of my beautiful friends, she loves beige or brownish colour so that I can't wait for the moment she said "Wow!" when she looks at it.

They said "broomstick" lace, but it looks to me rather "paisley", much posher than a broom sitck. because it has big holes it won't take so much time to make a scarf that's another good news too.

The Heart Shaped Balloon with A Beanie on.

I made this for my friend who is in hospital right now I will visit her this week with it. Her favourite colour is green and blue that reminds her ocean she said. Here in Sydney has had very cold winter this year the best season to do knitting or crochet. I am addicted to crochet, making the heart shaped balloon at the moment. I went to get a bag of balls of yarn (they were discounted hurray!) I am making a quite few variations of balloons and they will be on the shop very soon.

I have experimented many ways of displaying it, I really like the idea of displaying as if it's floating in the air because it is a balloon. The simple wire does the magic.

You can hook the wire on any bottle (Energy Drink would be ideal for a cheering up gift).

Simply just stick the wire into the back of balloon.

Here is another way of hanging it.

At the Dog Beach on the Beautiful Winter Day!

What I like about taking a photo in winter is you can get beautiful shadows everywher you go. Particularly I can see myself having a pair of loooooooong legs which I've dreamed about. We spent our time at the Wollongong dog beach for a few hours just so refreshing after the long rainy days.

We just arrived at the dog beach, I had longest legs of the day because the sun is still high up.

Now, my body and legs are even length. Our dog Henry's foot steps on the sand.

I don't look smart any more because the body's taken over the legs.

Yes, a quite windy day which created choppy waves, but look at the blue sky! I would like to send the crisp cool air to my friends in Japan who starting feeling stinky hot air (I really feel sorry for them).

Fifteen uncoupled simple pendulums of monotonically increasing lengths dance together to produce visual traveling waves, standing waves, beating, and (seemingly) random motion.
The period of one complete cycle of the dance is 60 seconds. The length of the longest pendulum has been adjusted so that it executes 51 oscillations in this 60 second period. The length of each successive shorter pendulum is carefully adjusted so that it executes one additional oscillation in this period. Thus, the 15th pendulum (shortest) undergoes 65 oscillations.

I put a wire in the body of ReadingMate (a felted book mark), that would make its body bent and you can have more fun with it as a reading mate!

As you see a half bottom of the body can be in the book where you stop reading then a half top body can lift and the cute felted eye balls looking at you saying "Come back and ready the book whenever you want to" encouraging you to keep reading.

It can be bent any direction.

There are many, many phone mounts out there. This Kickstarter project called The Oona, seems more versatile than most. The designers set out to solve these use cases and more:
• A GPS on the windshield of your car
• A reference device on a white board or Refrigerator
• The ability to mount your smart phone to a tripod to take photos or video
• Hands free viewing of a movie, playing on your smart phone
• A simple stand to keep your phone in view on your desk at work

I asked Sam Gordon, one of the project founders, if they’d had better luck with their suction cups than I’d had with mine. I tried Kent K. Barnes’s Garmin suction cup iPad mount trick, but couldn’t get the suction to, well, suck for more than a few minutes at a time. Sam had this to say:
We spent a lot of time designing the right suction cup for The Oona. The ones we prototyped early on were made of a thermoplastic elastomer so they could be easily injection molded. After testing we found that low shore durometer silicone produced the best results. While testing the stand we found it secures the phone more than needed when using it properly (desk, whiteboard, car window, etc.). We’ve had problems with it when trying to secure it to a bad surface, or when we used it in applications that really rocked the phone back and forth. Moreover unlike a dedicated car phone suction mount our product is not meant for adhesion for days on end, our philosophy for The Oona is a mobile mount your phone, something you can take with you to use in different places throughout the day as you change environments.
A lot depends on the smart phone and the surface, but just from personal experience, Brad (co-designer) drove from San Francisco to LA with his iPhone 3 stuck to his windshield and it did not fall once.

Also, Sam is planning to share info about their experiences as first-time product designers:
We have a deal with a manufacturer in the US to create the low durometer silicone rubber one that we found to be best after testing. One really helpful piece to the puzzle has been MFG.com for a lot of our sourcing needs. These guys are great because they help people like us, with no existing manufacturing contacts, find the best shops to make our components.
Once (once!) funding goes through, we’re planning on getting video of all the components being made at the different production shops mixed with us talking about our experience doing the process for the first time. Based on our own experience and hearing from other makers, we feel that there is a lack of information available on how to do an independent short production run and we think other makers might find it helpful to see the steps we took.

Best of luck, guys, I hope you get enough funding to produce a run of stands!

It's so nice to have sunshine in my kitchen particularly when I'm working on felting. You need to stand there for a while so that the sunshine would help me not to think I'm stuck in somewhere doing hard works and missing out beautiful Autumn day out there.

I like working on my ironing board for cutting and sawing other than ironing, yes, it is not big and wide but that's the point I like about because it stops me to spread all bits and pieces unnecessarily, I'm a pretty much "spreader".... I will finish making 38 cheese coasters today, Hurray!

This remarkably beautiful video, uploaded to YouTube one day before the Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, turns out to be an ad for Sharp’s SH-08C handset. It is, nonetheless, something you shouldn’t miss: in a tranquil forest, a single wooden ball rolls down a stepped wooden ramp, continuously, for two minutes. At each step, it falls and strikes a wooden bar tuned to play a single note of the 10th movement of Bach’s Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben, BWV 147, commonly known by its English title, Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring. Giving the iPad2 a repairability score of just 4/10, highlights on this teardown include a switch from clips to heavy use of adhesive and a crappy rear-facing camera. I kept watching the Japanese TV news (by ustream) about the catastrophe of earthquake, it became a kind of obsession. I just cannot stop watching it and got to the point I really need a break from it otherwise it will be too depressing.
Well, Mike and I decided to drive down to the City this afternoon and walk around the shops. We cannot miss our favourite spot - Kinokuniya book shop.
I always feel like a tourist when I wonder around the middle of the city that feeling is rather nice particulary when you need to get something out of your mind for a while.

I don't know how long it took for him to paint these paintings with chalks/pastels, these amazing works on the floor made me feel refreshing.

After browsing some Japanese books and magazines, I started reading Shuan Tan's picture books. I completely forgot about his books that I own one of them. Fantastic pencil drawings and beautiful stories. I just love them. I sat in a pool of sunlight and felt relaxed, just enjoying holding a beautiful book and look at it.

Mike phoned me asking for having a tea at the cafe attched the book shop, he just came back from China town I don't know why he wanted to walk around the China town but I'd rather stay at the book shop and read. I had my favourite tea - Earl Grey, Mike had a Russian Caravan (I'd rather call it "Russian Caravaggio "). I started feeling better at this moment. No more news about the earthquakes what I thinking about is books, pencil drawings and postcards.

On the way back home walking back to our car we saw an aboriginal artist painting her art work... I've never seen them doing on the street. How wonderful is that they're sharing the proess of their art works on the street. It would be awful if so many cars around but it was quiet.

I took all my photos with my iPhone. I haven't spent time to take photos for a while, so I really enjoyed taking photo here and there like a typical Japanese tourist (Have you ever seen a single Japanee tourist without a camera? ). I might pick it up again and start doing the snapshots more.

We came home and took a dog to the park, I took a photo of sunset then noticed the shape of profile it's actually thetraffic lights.

It took this crew the short span of two weeks to “fly the house” in this National Geographic project to create a real life version of the house in Pixar’s Up– lifted into the sky by balloons. “The real Up! Scientists recreate floating house from Pixar movie… and prove it really CAN fly” at dailymail:
The team from National Geographic have built a house inspired by the Pixar movie Up! that can really fly.
Using 300 helium-filled weather balloons, a team of scientists, engineers, two balloon pilots and dozens of volunteers, they managed to get the small house 10,000 feet into the air.
Of course it was not a real house, but a custom-built light weight one.
Executive producer Ben Bowie said: ‘We found that it is actually close to impossible to fly a real house.’
Producer Ian White added: ‘But what we can do is kind of fly a light-weight house and fly it safely with people on board.’

I don't know about you but I love doing a few projects at a time. I get easily bored if I have to do only one thing to get done for long time. My productivity definitely increases if I enjoy myself that leads doing a few projects for a day. Doing a little of each project sometimes will give you a surprising reward because suddenly a few projects will be finished at a time. Hurray! Well, today is not that kind of amazing day but at least I've finished a quite few ReadingMate. Lovely.

I started feeling they looked at me and asking "are you going to do today?" it's a bit paranoid. Well, today is the day I have to be strong and make them into a beautiful coaster TODAY!

One of our readers, Jimy Soprano, sent us the links to this incredibly inspiring short documentary of classical Japanese metal artist Ford Hallam recreating a lost masterpiece by the 19th century Mito tsuba artist Hagia Katsuhira. Years ago, I went off on a Samurai sword/Iaidō kick and obsessed over every detail of Japanese sword construction, maintenance, and the “moving Zen” of the Iaidō form. This video touched that obsession again.
The “tsuba” is the decorative sword guard, and like every other piece of a samurai sword, it’s work of art in and of itself. This video documents Ford Hallam being commissioned to create a tsuba for a Katana (long) sword to match an existing tsuba created by Hagia Katsuhira for a wakazashi (short sword). The painstaking, precise nature of the work is rather dizzying. [Thanks, Jimy!]

Sometimes i'm overwealmed by the love gesture from my friends. When I met one of my friends to get a small stuff then she gave me a lunch, The Japanese lunch she made earlier! I nearly cried...... The petite tomatos are from her garden...

The tea in the photo is from another friend. A beautiful Jasmin tea.

I made the left one yesterday. I came up an idea of making a hole so that it can be hung on the hook at the same time it will be a shining sun! Mike my husband suggested to use the bright yellow threads instead of soft yellow (middle one) so I changed it and make a sprout longer so that it can be more obvious when it's hung (right one).

I have so many ideas to make a felting products. This is one of them. A little sprout's growing in the corner of the simple white coaster. My husband said as usual "weird" instead of saying "cute!". I will make more of this tomorrow. I'm so glad that I could make one tonight.

Yes, I'm making the egg white now. You can see the pre-felt stage of fried egg coasters in the back. Well it's a humid hot day today but surprisingly so pleasure to do felting. I can't tell how much I'm enjoying doing felting. Another wonderful productive day.

It's been a while since I blogged last time...

It was a hard summer holiday for me, Mike my husband and our dog Henry.
You wouldn't believe until actually it happened. Sitting on a dog park bench right now and writing this with my iPad Henry is beside me, I think back what we've been through....
Mike got an appendicitis on our holiday, I had to take him in ER in a town he got surgery straight away. Mike ended up staying hospital for 10 days after that because he got blood infections caused by appendicitis. Henry and I had to survive the hot weather there (38C/100F) I stayed motel for a while then visited Mike early in the morning and after sunset because I couldn't leave Henry in a boiling hot car. Henry and I driving around the town to find nice dog park to spend our time but it's too hot get out of air-conditioned car. I finally decided to go back to Sydney to leave Henry to his breeder to look after him then come back to the town again. 5 hrs driving each way.
After Mike and I came back to Sydney, again, he got in hospital because abscess in his tummy gave him fever and ill feeling. Another 2wks he was in hospital. Henry remained with his breeder for 4wks altogether.
Today I feel normal at last. Mike lost 20kg nice and slim ;-) and started teaching again, Henry is with us, I'm mentally ok that I can write my blog.
oh by the way aren't the gorgeous trees? can you see Henry in left corner?

I got a question how the red sheet of wool would turn into the tomato coasters.

I will show you. I cut it into a small square then decorate other wools on the top then do the regular wet felt procedure. Finally iron to flat then cut in shape. Done!

I've known Ustream for a while but I haven't had a closer look and thought "what for?". Yes, it's like Twitter.

Now I found a reason to do Ustream. Sometimes I don't have enough motivation to start felting or crafting particularly after you stayed in hospital. Even though NO BODY is watching what you are doing in ustream but broadcasting what I am doing will give me a good motivation and remind me to enjoy doing it. OK Go's latest video, "Last Leaf," employs pieces of toast as the canvas for a laser-etched, illustrated stop-motion music video. After watching the multitude of different shapes, textures, and shades of toast pass before my eyes (15 pieces of toast per second), it begins to remind me of watching an old reel-to-reel film in elementary school, with the rough texture of the toast and surrounding crumbs mimicking those telltale visual artifacts.

A Cool Rabbit

My car is not working well, Mike and I went up to see our friend to get his help. We visited his new place then we found a cute neighbour rabbit! I've never seen a pet rabbit with the harness & a bell on it! She is a cool one. Just laying there watching us doing the car job. Often she followed us around. What a lovely creature!

Oh well, I've been here for 2 weeks now. A nurse said this morning I will be able to go home tomorrow... BUT (yes, I have a good reason to say a big BUT), you don't know if it will really really happen until it's done. I don't Know how many times I got disappointed. However I can't complain much because I'm lucky enough to live in the country I can get the good treatments with Medicare, really.

I'm in hospital again :-(

I've been in hospital since Tuesday for my ankle bone infection, same problem.

I really hope it will be fixed to the point I don't have to come back another few years.

I could get a private room with a view! I can see the Harbour bridge.

What a beautiful day today... Blue sky and sunshine....

I will stay here for another several days.

Lovely friends of mine visit me every day and some brought me a Japanese lunch! I feel so loved.

Even though it is a pretty funny to wear it as a scarf, you can put it on the bag as an eye catch accessory.
